In retrospect, it may have been a mistake to watch the original 1997 MEN IN BLACK again the night before seeing the much-awaited sequel. I only did it to remind myself of the characters, the situations, the running gags etc which I suspected the sequel would revisit. Whilst this rewatching heightened my appreciation of the original (which I’d always felt was over-rated) it probably did the sequel no favours at all. Having said that, MEN IN BLACK 2 is an entertaining little picture, a classic example of the Hollywood blockbuster sequel principle, pressing all the right buttons and making all the right noises. If you loved the original, you’ll love the sequel because the films are almost identical.
